Flue Vaccinations
During 2002 the Club started a campaign to vaccinate children who live in local Childrens’ homes against influenza.
Children, such as these, who live very close to each other, are easily subjected to the rapid spread of viruses such as flue. This causes a high degree of discomfort and requires a great deal of care. There is also the ever-increasing cost of medicines to cure the symptoms.
The vaccination programme reduces the chances for the virus to take hold and spread, thus giving greater protection for the children in the winter months when they are most at risk. The annual programme coveres around 450 children and their Teachers and Carers.
The programme is lead by Doctor Andrzej Puchalski who was supported by staff from the local hospitals in Szczecin and other Club members. The Club paid for the vaccine, and the Project workers provided their services without charge.
